Questions clients ask before they hire us

If yours isn't here, call. We'd rather answer it on the phone than have you guess.

Do you represent people suing or people being sued?

Both. About half our cases are for the side bringing the claim and half for the side defending it. We check conflicts before we hear the details.

Who do you represent?

Owners, family companies, contractors, landlords and individuals with business disputes. We don't represent insurers in coverage cases.

I've been served. What should I do first?

Write down the date you were served, and don't reply to the other side or their lawyer. Then call us. The time to answer a complaint is short, and missing it can mean losing by default.

Is the first conversation free?

Yes. A partner will talk with you about the dispute at no charge. If we take the case, the engagement letter sets out what we charge from then on.

Do you only work in Buffalo?

Our office is downtown, and most of our cases are in the eight counties of Western New York. We go to other courts when a case needs it.

Can we meet outside business hours?

Yes, early mornings or by video, when your schedule needs it. Ask when you call.

What should I bring to the first meeting?

The contract or policy, any letters or papers you've been served with, and the emails or texts that show what happened. A timeline helps, even a rough one.

Will my case really be handled by the lawyers I meet?

Yes. You'll meet your lead partner and your second lawyer, and they're the ones who work the case and appear for you.

A question we haven't answered here?

Call, or send a short note through the contact page, and a lawyer will get back to you.
